Some Bury history
With a population of just over 60,000 Bury is a large market town which dates back to the period of Roman occupation. The town boasts a lot of history, with the most imposing building being Bury castle in the 15th century. The castle was destroyed with the remains being under the current site of the Bury Armoury that is situated within the town centre. Bury, like Bolton had it’s main development within the industrial revolution when the cotton industry was at it’s peak.
Bury is well known for it’s open air market situated in the centre of the town. The market has achieved many awards due to it’s buoyant atmosphere and wide range of produce including the famous Bury black pudding which has been produced in the area for hundreds of years. Bury black puddings are a firm favourite in many large well known stores including Harrods of London.
